Mayo High School Planetarium
September 9th
Join us at Mayo High School where Larry Mascotti welcomes the RAC to a show of light and magic, with the Magic Planet and the new planetarium. Don't miss the opportunity to see their new technology!

THANK YOU PROFESSOR RUSS PALMA!
The RAC would like to thank Dr. Russ Palma, Professor, School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Minnesota, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Minnesota State University Mankato. Russ visited us for our August meeting, and gave a great talk. Russ, you are welcome here anytime!

Star Parties
Get out under the sky with us! Bring a scope or look through ours. Observe the heavens: planets, comets, Sun and Moon, nebulae, galaxies, multiple star systems too.

August 29th, Eagle Bluff Star Party
The RAC will hold a public Star Party at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center, near Lanesboro, MN. If you choose to join us for this event:

• Dress Warm (a clear night sky can be very cold)
• Try to keep white lights to a minimum. If you choose to use a flashlight, choose a red filtered one. If you arrive after dark, come in with your parking lights on and drive carefully.
• If it's cloudy, we won't be there. Scopes can't see through clouds. Check back at this website for status updates.
• You don't need any equipment of your own, but if you do have a telescope, feel free to bring it.
• Mosquito repellant is a good idea. They are not only annoying but also a health risk.

The First Annual RAC STARBQ, was a Great Success!

Friday evening was incredible. Dean's Boxelder BBQ and Bistro was fantastic. The food and service was superb and the atmosphere couldn't be beat. Scopes were lined up and plenty of people came out to see what the RAC was all about. The sky was clear, dark and stable. The most notable observations stemmed from an onslaught of meteor activity which included more than one fireball and a bolide!

Fewer people were around Saturday night, but that gave us the opportunity to chase down some Herschel objects (while Herschel the cat chased down gophers). We were there until we saw an approaching storm and packed up at about 2:00AM. There is no better way to say it than, It Was a Glorious Weekend for Astronomy! StarBQ 08 Slide Show

Public Outreach Public events where we view objects and explain the facts of our universe. An opportunity for the general public to ask questions and view the sky like never before.
